Someone's Thunder

The phrase “someone’s thunder” comes from the theater – but not a famous line from a bard – a stolen special effect!  In the early 1700s a new sound effect swept theaters uncredited and the phrase to steal someone’s thunder was born.

Isn’t that the way with art? Who cares where it’s from – if it makes us feel, we want more of it – in different ways – again and again!

Native New Yorkers, entertainment professionals, and long-time friends Angela Pierce and Stephanie Klapper chat about creativity in general and all the surprises, thunder and “someones” behind it.

ANGELA PIERCE

Angela played Seyton & Lady Macduff in a very memorable production of Macbeth.  During the show, whilst not performing, she spent most of her backstage time musing over what type of soap or cleansing agent might help Lady Macbeth get out those pesky spots. Still to this day she is plagued with finding the perfect cleaning agent for all those unseemly, unwanted, nasty spots that could ruin any dinner party.  She continues to play parts in all mediums, and in her spare time she’s creating the best anime imovie of her beloved pet with the most provocative background music she can find. STEPHANIE KLAPPER

Stephanie Klapper is a real deal New Yorker; born in the Bronx, and raised in Greenwich Village. Growing up Stephanie’s Dad used to say “out damn spot” quite frequently (though her dog was not named spot…) It was not until High School when Stephanie was reading Macbeth in English class that she realized her father was quoting Lady M. and thus a deeper appreciation and love of her father’s sense of humor and Shakespeare’s humor were elevated to new heights.

Through a circuitous route from classical flutist to film student, to drama studies major, assistant to producers of an award-winning Broadway musical, work as a theatrical director, many great adventures abroad, and listening to her guardian angels, Stephanie found a way to put her love of helping people to reach their dreams and highest potential through what has now been a fruitful and action packed life as a casting director.

Her greatest joys are her 2 children who inspire her daily, her patient husband, and two rather rambunctious cats, who have taught her that “Nature’s Miracle” is best for taking care of their damn spots…

AMANDA D’AQUILA

Amanda played Lady Macbeth in high school, and stole the big fake ruby wedding ring that was part of her costume; upon returning it years later, she was asked “is this some twelve-step thing?” By day, Amanda has a sweet administrative job in digital media. She does her best to stay off social media but still pays for

YAH JEFFRIES-EL

Yah isn’t an actor– but he plays one on television. The native Brooklynite’s first scene-chewing appearance was as Sassy Clavin in “The Don Knotts Story” (1986) a straight-to-Betamax release only available in Japan. Do not Google or attempt to fact-check most of the above. Yah is the Someone’s Thunder webmaster and provides tunes for the podcast, and for the public at large here:
